- Cost of Living Support
ForwardMotion is a project funded by the Department for Transport that operates across South Essex. We encourage active travel (walking, cycling, taking public transport, etc) when commuting to work, education or training as part of a healthy lifestyle. We are also proud to support these transport methods due to their positive impact on the environment. ForwardMotion encourages residents to travel actively through bike loans, bike sales, travel advice, cycle training, community projects and more. More recently, our services have been amended to comply with governmental advice on social distancing.
You can find ForwardMotion on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and LinkedIn. Plus, we now have an online shop on Facebook for bike sales, collections and maintenance queries. We have been producing a wide variety of content during lockdown including ‘how-to’ videos on YouTube to help people make the most of their bikes for commuting and exercise.
Website and Campaigns
The ForwardMotion website is our central hub for advice, inspiration and travel ideas. We regularly post articles, success stories and other ways people can get involved with what we do. Prior to lockdown we have hosted Travel Challenges, events and campaigns to inspire people to get cycling and walking. Our most recent campaign ‘This is What a Cyclist Looks Like’ explored real people who cycled on their commute, to challenge perceptions and stereotypes of what the public perception of ‘a cyclist’ is.
Benefits to the Community
Over our 3 years of operation, we have helped numerous people across south Essex to change their commute. We have visited workplaces such as Ikea and Amazon, attended student-lead events, and even hosted our own ‘ForwardMotion Village’ at the village green festival. We’ve also helped individuals to change the way they travel through more direct support. People that have used our services have expressed how beneficial cycling and walking have been to their physical health and mental wellbeing.
