A Better Start Southend is about using new ways of thinking to solve some of the problems that have affected local children and families for years. We started life in April 2015 and are one of five Better Start areas across the country funded by The National Lottery Community Fund.

We are a partnership of local organisations who have years of experience working with families and young children. Most importantly, we’re working with local parents and carers to find out what needs to change if we are going to give Southend’s children the best start they can have.

We focus on three specific areas of a child’s development; Diet and Nutrition, Social and Emotional Development and Communication and Language. Additionally, we also focus on building Community Resilience and implementing System Change.
